Palo Alto,
Calif.
– Facebook has disabled
its chat function after a bug was found to allow contacts to view a user’s live
chats and pending friend requests, TechCrunch reported.

The bug appeared in
Facebook’s "Preview my profile" feature, which lets users see how
their profiles would be seen by friends, according to the privacy settings they
have enabled.

"When we received reports of the problem, our engineers
promptly diagnosed it and temporarily disabled the chat function,"
Facebook told TechCrunch.

"We also pushed out a fix to take care of the
visible friend requests which is now complete… We worked quickly to resolve
this matter, ensuring that once the bug was reported to us, a solution was
quickly found and implemented."
