Lahore, Pakistan – The Pakistani government
has ordered Internet service providers in the country to block Facebook, over a
page on the site that encourages users to post images of the Muslim prophet
Muhammad, the Associated Press reported.

The page in question —
"Everybody Draw Mohammed Day!" — was reportedly created in response
to threats leveled against the creators of "South Park"
for their depiction of Muhammad on the show.

While the government had initially
intended to block just the offending page in question in Pakistan, a group
of Islamic lawyers petitioned the government to block the entire Facebook site
because the company allowed the page to be posted in the first place.

The
blocking of Facebook is slated to last until at least May 31.
