Tokyo – Japanese mobile network operator NTT DoCoMo
announced on Monday that it has acquired the remaining 65% interest in mobile
video developer PacketVideo that it did not already own, from NextWave for $111.6
million.

DoCoMo previously acquired a 35% in PacketVideo in 2009; the current
transaction is expected to close by Sept. 30.

Founded in 1998, PacketVideo was
acquired by NextWave in 2005. The company powers mobile video services for
customers including AT&T, Verizon, Rogers Canada and TeliaSonera.

DoCoMo
said it plans to "create synergies with PacketVideo for enhanced media
services, including the creation of an all-new domain of services that allow
users to easily link their mobile handsets with home electronic devices to
remotely enjoy and share content."
