Seattle – Microsoft (NASD:  MSFT) co-founder Paul Allen last week filed
patent infringement lawsuits against Google (NASD:  GOOG), Apple (NASD:  AAPL), Yahoo (NASD:  YHOO), Facebook, AOL (NYSE:  AOL) and
other big-name tech firms, alleging infringement of patents owned by his
Interval Research lab.

The patents in question cover technology that describes
automatically generated product recommendations and related news stories, and
displaying information like stock quotes on a Web page.

Allen is worth an
estimated $13.5 billion, mostly accrued through sales of Microsoft shares.

Observers have noted the patent lawsuits conspicuously do not name Microsoft or
Amazon.com as defendants.
