San Bruno, Calif. – Google’s (NASD: GOOG) YouTube is now serving 2
billion views of videos with ads attached every week — enough to make the
company profitable this year, according to analysts, The New York Times
reported.
The 2 billion views represent just 14% of the total number of video
views YouTube serves each week.
Interestingly, more than a third of these views
of ad-supported videos are on videos featuring copyrighted content that was
uploaded by users — with content owners choosing to let the video stay up and
be monetized via ads, rather than demand YouTube take it down on a copyright
violation.
Analysts expect YouTube will generate $450 million in revenue this
year, and turn a profit, The Times reports.
