Seattle – Ivi on Monday debuted an application that lets
viewers watch live streaming TV of major broadcast channels. The service is
free for 30 days, after which time users pay $4.99 per month for unlimited
access to over 25 TV channels, while an upgrade that includes DVR functionality
costs 99 cents per month extra. The company did not mention securing approval
from broadcasters for the service, noting that it believes it is compliance
with applicable laws because it will pay broadcasters royalty payments for
retransmissions.
