Redmond, Wash. – Nintendo on Monday celebrates the 25th
anniversary of the release of "Super Mario Bros.," the first game to
prominently feature now-flagship Nintendo character Mario. The original release
of the game in 1985, for the NES console, sold a total of 40 million units
worldwide. Of course, Mario himself actually debuted a few years earlier, as a
character in "Donkey Kong."
