San Bruno, Calif. – Google’s (NASD:  GOOG) YouTube has launched a two-day
trial of a new live streaming video platform, which will allow some of its
partners to offer live video webcasts. Initially, live video will be offered by
Howcast, Next New Networks, Rocketboom and Young Hollywood.

The live video streaming
feature supports webcams or cameras connected to a computer via external
USB/FireWire, and includes a "Live Comments" feature, which lets
viewers instantly engage video producers and the YouTube community.

"Based
on the results of this initial test, we’ll evaluate rolling out the platform
more broadly to our partners worldwide," reads a post on the YouTube blog.
