Port Washington, N.Y. – Sales of full-game digital downloads
of PC games totaled 11.2 million during the first half of 2010, surpassing the
8.2 million physical game discs sold at retail during the same period,
according to a report from market research firm NPD Group.

The firm noted that
physical games sold at retail stores maintained a greater share of dollar
revenue (57%) than digitally downloaded games (43%).

Overall, combined sales of
physical and digital PC games were down 21% in the first half of 2010, while
unit sales are down 14%.

"The overall decline of PC games when combining
sales via both digital downloads and physical retail sales is impacted by the
expansion of social network gaming as well as the continued expansion of free
game options," said NPD analyst Anita Frazier.
