New York – WebMediaBrands (NASD: WEBM), the blog network and trade show
producer, announced on Monday that it has acquired the assets of the Semantic
Technology Conference and SemanticUniverse.com blog from Wilshire Conferences.
Financial terms of the transaction were not disclosed, although WebMediaBrands
CEO Alan Meckler expects the deal will be accretive to the company’s earnings and
cash flows.
Founded in 2005, the SemTech 2011 conference is scheduled for next
June in San Francisco.
Founders Tony Shaw and Dave McComb will continue as
consultants, and take an active role in expanding and operating SemTech for
WebMediaBrands.
"The Semantic Web is a rapidly growing technology that is
affecting search marketing, retail marketing, and publishing and media
markets," said Meckler.
"By combining forces with Semantic Universe
and SemTech, WebMediaBrands has become the definitive source of information for
what appears to be one of the next great revolutions in Web search and
marketing."
