New York – U.S. e-book sales have nearly doubled over the past
year, and so far this year represent 9% of total consumer book sales, up from
3.3% at this point last year, according to a report from the Association of
American Publishers.

E-book sales through August totaled $263 million, up 193% from
the $89.8 million reported at the same point a year ago.

For the month of
August, e-book sales saw 172.4% growth from a year ago, compared with a 24%
decline in hardcover sales.
