San Francisco – PayPal, the online payments unit of eBay (NASD: EBAY),
announced on Tuesday the upcoming launch of a new micropayments service, which
Facebook says it will integrate so that users can purchase its Facebook
Credits.

Pricing will be 5% plus 5 cents for purchases under $12, which PayPal
says is "lower than the fees typically charged by payment processors in
the digital goods industry."

Along with Facebook, companies including
FT.com, GigaOM, Justin.tv, Ooyala, Tagged and Ustream said they will use the
new PayPal micropayments to monetize digital goods.

PayPal booked $2 billion in
total payments volume in 2009, and $1.3 billion in the first half of 2010.
