Los Angeles – Digital music sales in Japan were down 5%
during the first three quarters of 2010, Billboard reported, citing a report
from the Recording Industry Association of Japan (RIAJ).

While the overall
digital music market was down 4%, to $779.2 million during the period, total
digital music unit sales fell 5% from a year ago, to 334.3 million.

The key
mobile music sector saw sales fall 6% in volume, to 297.6 million units, while
sales revenue was down 4%.

Non-mobile digital sales were up 5% in volume, to
36.6 million tracks, but revenue was flat compared with the first three
quarters of 2009, Billboard noted.
