Los Angeles – US Copyright Group, the legal firm that has
filed tens of thousands of lawsuits against suspected downloaders of movies
such as "Far Cry," on Tuesday dropped 97% of those cases due to a
lack of proper jurisdiction, TorrentFreak reported. A federal judge recently
ordered US Copyright Group, which had bundled thousands of complaints against
individual file-swappers around the country into a single filing made in the
District of Columbia, to amend its filing.

Now, of the 4,577 original
defendants named, just 140 remain — all of whom reside in D.C.

The complaints
against the remaining defendants were dismissed "without prejudice,"
meaning US Copyright Group may choose to re-file lawsuits against the suspected
file-swappers in the state in which they reside.
