Cupertino, Calif. – Apple (NASD: AAPL) is lengthening the streaming song
samples available at its iTunes Store from 30 seconds to 90 seconds.
The U.S.
store began featuring 90-second samples on some songs on Wednesday.
Apple
announced the move last month, stating at the time that it believed allowing
consumers to listen to longer samples "will lead to more purchases."
It’s unclear whether Apple was compelled to secure additional licenses from the
National Music Publishers Association (NMPA), which had protested that Apple
did not have the necessary permissions to offer longer samples.
