Santa Clara, Calif. – Chipmaker Intel (NASD: INTC) has announced it
will invest $100 million over the next five years to open Intel Science and
Technology Centers across several U.S. universities.

The centers will focus on
projects in technology areas that align with the company’s research agenda,
such as visual computing, mobility, security and embedded solutions.

Intel Labs
also announced that Stanford University will be the hub for the first center,
which will focus on improving visual computing experiences.

"Intel Labs
has long been a significant investor in university research and this program is
the next step in that critical investment," said Intel CTO Justin Rattner.
