New York – Bookseller Barnes & Noble (NYSE: BKS) on Monday sent an
open letter to members of rival Amazon.com’s (NASD: AMZN) affiliate program, inviting any
dropped by Amazon over state sales tax issues to join its own website affiliate
program. Due to requirements that it collect sales tax on purchases made by
residents of states including Rhode Island, Colorado and North Carolina, Amazon
has dropped affiliate website partners in those states. “If Amazon doesn’t
want you, we do!” reads the letter. “And, we will take care of collecting
and remitting all sales taxes due on BN.com sales to its customers so you and
our customers don’t have to worry about being hassled or prosecuted by state
tax auditors.”
