Seaside, Calif. – Viewing of professionally-produced online
video increased by 47% in 2010, to 72.3 billion views, marking the highest
annual growth rate seen since 2007, according to a report from AccuStream Research.
Growth was attributed to increased viewing of TV episodes online, combined with
the growing importance of video aggregators like AOL, MSN, Yahoo and Blinkx.
Over 10 billion long-form videos — such as TV episodes on Hulu — were viewed
in 2010, accounting for 14.5% of total views.
Websites branded by cable or
other premium TV services accounted for 26.3% of total views, while
"online-only" brands generated 63.1% of total views.
