Palo Alto, Calif. – Facebook has acquired Snaptu, the
company that developed a mobile version of Facebook for less-advanced
"feature" mobile phones.

Financial terms of the transaction were not
disclosed.

Founded in 2007, Snaptu develops mobile applications for
"feature" phones, used by the 95% of worldwide mobile users who the
company says don’t own a smartphone.

The company’s Facebook for Feature Phones
app works on more than 2,500 handsets.

Snaptu said the deal is expected to
close within weeks.
