Bethpage, N.Y. – Cablevision (NYSE: CVC), the nation’s eighth-largest cable TV
provider, on Monday released an iPad application that lets subscribers view
live streams of some 300 channels and 2,000 on-demand programs from within
their homes. The move follows the recent introduction of a similar live video
iPad app from Time Warner Cable, which has drawn complaints from some networks and led to their channels being removed from the app.

One notable difference between the two is that, while Time Warner Cable’s (NYSE: TWC) app delivers programming over the Internet, Cablevision says that its app uses the company’s own Advanced Digital Cable network.

The Cablevision app “gives our customers the additional flexibility and convenience of watching television throughout the home, in places where set-top boxes might not be ideal or even practical, like the kitchen, bathroom or work room,” said Cablevision COO Tom Rutledge.
