Los Angeles – Kickstarter, a crowd-sourced fundraising tool for media and
art projects, said that over the past two years users have pledged a total of
$53 million toward 20,371 projects, $40 million of which has been collected and
distributed to 7,496 successful projects. Another 9,700 or so projects were
unsuccessful in reaching their fundraising goals, and the remaining 3,000
campaigns are still running. The company notes that this makes for an overall
success rate of 43% for Kickstarter-funded projects.
