Scottsdale, Ariz. – Global shipments of 3D televisions are expected to shoot up almost 500% this year, fueled by a growing number of 3D productions and a resurgence of interest from Hollywood studios, according to a report from market research firm In-Stat.

The number of households with 3D TV sets worldwide is projected to top 300 million in 2015.

Europe will boast the most unit shipments this year, with 7 million, but by 2015 the Asia/Pacific region will account for 32% of all 3D TV unit shipments.

“We expect 100% of all 40-inch and above DTV sets will eventually be 3D-enabled,” said In-Stat’s Michelle Abraham.

“This will not only cause shipments of 3D TV sets to increase, but will also grow the number of households worldwide with 3D TV sets.  3D content providers need not worry that consumers will be unable to view their content.”
