Waterloo, Canada – Netflix’s (NASD: NFLX) streaming video service is now the largest source of peak downstream traffic in North America, accounting for 29.7% of all traffic — up from 21% in the fall of 2010, according to a report from Sandvine.

Netflix now accounts for more traffic than all HTTP websites (18%), BitTorrent file-sharing (11%) and YouTube (10%).

Sandvine said that “real-time entertainment,” encompassing streaming media content, makes up 49% of downstream traffic, while peer-to-peer file-sharing makes up 18.8% of traffic — down slightly from 19.2% in the fall of 2010.
