Mountain View, Calif. – Google on Thursday launched a beta test of Google Offers, the company’s new daily deals service that aims to compete with the likes of Groupon and LivingSocial, in the Portland, Ore. market.

The company also said it plans to launch San Francisco, Oakland and New York in the coming weeks.

Subscribers will receive daily emails with discount offers from local businesses.

Google first announced plans for the service in January, following its failed attempt to acquire Groupon.
