Los Angeles – A Canadian man who failed to appear to defend himself in a U.S. court has been found guilty of copyright infringement for uploading two adult films to a file-sharing network, and ordered to pay $60,000 in damages, TorrentFreak reports.

Gay adult video producer Corbin Fisher sued Alan Phillips for allegedly uploading two of its films to BitTorrent tracker Gaytorrent.ru.

The admin of Gaytorrent.ru reportedly turned over Phillips’ identity to the copyright holder without any court intervention.

Corbin Fisher then filed suit against Phillips in U.S. federal court, and the judge ordered a default judgment against Phillips when he failed to appear in court.

The judge disagreed with Corbin Fisher’s argument that the copyright infringement was “willful,” however, which lessened the damages amount that was eventually levied.
