San Jose, Calif. — Apple Corp. announced Thursday that over 15 billion apps have been downloaded from its app store from more than 200 million iPhone, iPad and iPod touch users nationwide.

In less than three years, and with over $2.5 billion paid to developers, Apple said its numbers demonstrate the company’s rate of downloads has accelerated since announcing in back in January that the company had reached 10 billion in 2-1/2 years.

“In just three years, the revolutionary App Store has grown to become the most exciting and successful software marketplace the world has ever seen,” said Philip Schiller, Apple’s senior vice president of Worldwide Product Marketing. “Thank you to all of our amazing developers.”
