Waterloo, Can. — Research in Motion, makers of BlackBerry, is developing a media hub called BlackBerry Cyclone, according to information first reported by Nerdberry.

The home media streamer will be Netflix compatible and will work with both Wi-Fi and HDMI. RIM is scheduled to release Cyclone in the fall.

This product news fits in with RIM’s end-to-end control of the user experience, but it comes as RIM is struggling through troubled times and its management is faced with investor unrest. Its strategy to focus on expansion into the Middle East and other territories where the BlackBerry device shows growth is its latest effort to regain its market position.

TechCrunch observes that RIM traditionally does well with enterprise applications, but its consumer-centric products – like RIM’s struggling PlayBook tablet – have been much less successful.
