MakerBot Industries, the company dedicated to the mainstreaming of 3D printing, has launched its own online series called MakerBot TV. It’s an entertaining use of venture capital money, especially since the cost won’t put much of a dent in last month’s $10 million funding round led by Foundry Group with participation from Jeff Bezos’ Bezos ExpeditionsTrue VenturesRRE and angels.

The first episode includes scanning adventures with Afro Punk, Angelo Moore (of Fishbone) and comedian Reggie Watts, along with user interviews and other fun with the MakerBot Thing-O-Matic personal 3D scanner.

MakerBot Industries is a company founded in January 2009 by Bre Pettis (pictured), Adam Mayer, and Zach Smith “to democratize manufacturing” with open source 3D printers.

  1. One of the great things about technology is that it keeps evolving. We have created a 3D printer that uses subtraction techniques to dramatically reduce the time to print (on average about 1/20th that of additive machines) and more importantly, the cost. With our materials as low as $0.06/in^3, we have made 3D printing affordable.
