Warner Bros. Interactive Entertainment today formally released its new Facebook game The Big Bang Theory: Mystic Warlords of Ka’a, which has been in beta since July 27. The timing is not accidental. Warner Bros. Television’s hit comedy returns to the screen tonight on CBS in back-to-back episodes kicking off its fifth season, having recently started to air five nights a week in off-network syndication on the Fox Television Stations and broadcast stations around the country, as well as on TBS.
The release date also capitalizes on the show’s high profile during the Emmy Awards. Both Jim Parsons and Johnny Galecki were nominated for Outstanding Lead Actor in a Comedy Series, an award Parsons won for the second consecutive year. The Big Bang Theory also received three additional Emmy nominations, including Outstanding Comedy Series.
Mystic Warlords of Ka’a is purportedly based on the fake Pokemon-style card battle game played by the show’s characters. It’s not necessary to have watched the show, as can be seen from the spirited discussions on the game’s Facebook page, but it does add a layer of meta-kitsch if gamers are fans of the comedy. Gamers can play with characters from the series or challenge their friends in different game modes, and they also can earn coins and collect and trade rare cards with one another.
Samantha Ryan, senior vice president, Production and Development, Warner Bros. Interactive Entertainment, said her team worked closely with Warner Bros. Television to ensure the game was an authentic expression of the intellectual property.
