Apparently 800 live professional radio stations, together with personalized radio streams, aren’t enough for Clear Channel’s New iHeartRadio. Clear Channel Radio and Univision announced Tuesday that 45 of Univision Radio’s stations will become available on the New iHeartRadio across all platforms, marking iHeartRadio’s first third-party distribution partner. The deal includes programs by well-known Hispanic radio personalities like Omar Y Argelia, Dra. Isabel, Luis Jiménez, Raul Brindis (y Pepito), Piolín and Javier Romero.
The New iHeartRadio interactive radio service went live on Sept. 23 during the iHeartRadio Music Festival in Las Vegas. Univision Radio’s stations, which will become available to users in mid-October, will be in addition to Univision’s existing web and mobile listening options.
Univision Radio is the leading Spanish-language radio group in the U.S. with 70 stations in 17 markets including Puerto Rico, reaching over 16 million unduplicated listeners each week. Univision Radio covers nearly 70 percent of the country’s Hispanic population and is the only Spanish-language radio operator in 14 of the top 15 Hispanic markets.
Kevin Conroy, president of Univision Interactive Media, said the deal was an excellent way to get discovered by new listeners in addition to providing a desirable service to existing ones. “This partnership provides a great opportunity for us to expand our reach and grow the audience for Univision Radio’s programming beyond our own online and mobile platforms through iHeartRadio, providing yet another avenue for fans to listen to their favorite stations no matter where they connect from,” he explained.
Bob Pittman, chairman of Media and Entertainment Platforms for Clear Channel, said the agreement would make iHeartRadio a more complete offering for its millions of listeners. “This agreement highlights our strategy of providing the most complete array of radio stations imaginable, and it’s one more validation of our platform that Univision Radio is joining iHeartRadio,” he added.
With 50 million listening hours a month and 34 million downloads of iHeartRadio mobile apps, Clear Channel is already one of the most popular digital music destinations.
