Nintendo is adding Hulu Plus to the content available to 3DS and Wii owners, in an initiative that will go live by the end of the year. The game company also announced the Nintendo 3DS system is getting the ability to record 3D videos, among other enhancements, and a new Halloween-suitable 3D video from DreamWorks Animation SKG.
As on any other platform, Hulu Plus requires a separate monthly subscription fee of $7.99 and comes with advertising.
The Nintendo 3DS System update is scheduled for November. The new 3D video capture feature will let users record up to 10 minutes of 3D video and enable people to create their own 3D stop-motion animation videos. The update will also add other unspecified features and new content to some existing games.
Nintendo 3DS owners don’t have to wait for the new animated short, however. Already available for $1.99 download is a 3D video featuring DreamWorks Animation’s Shrek characters singing and dancing to Thriller. Also, Nintendo 3DS owners will soon see four inventive downloadable Nintendo-published games and applications delivered to the Nintendo eShop, in addition to new 3D music videos.
“Nintendo 3DS continues to evolve with great new features and functions designed to reinforce its position as a premiere entertainment device,” Nintendo of America president Reggie Fils-Aime said in a statement.
Fils-Aime also announced new games coming to the Nintendo eShop: Freakyforms: Your Creations, Alive! lets players create creatures and bring them to life; Pushmo, which asks players to solve hundreds of puzzles by pulling and pushing blocks; Swapnote, a 3D multimedia messaging application, and Dillon’s Rolling Western, is a 3D tower defense game featuring an armadillo who defends an Old West town rendered in 3D by literally rolling over his enemies.
