FX and Twentieth Century Fox Home Entertainment are set to release a second screen interactive app on Nov. 1 for fans of FX’s Sons of Anarchy that includes shopping, a feature that the network says is a first. It self-synchronizes with the live broadcast and with Blu-ray viewing.
The app, called SOA Gear, includes exclusive behind-the-scenes footage, unique products and licensed merchandise, as well as jewelry and clothing worn by cast members on the show that are available for purchase. It synchronizes with the hit program, and can be used while watching either in real time or on Blu-ray, highlighting the products that can be bought.
“SOA fans have proven to be amongst the most highly-engaged and passionate voices out there,” said Mike Dunn, president, Twentieth Century Fox Home Entertainment. “Groundbreaking technology platforms like the interactive shopping app will captivate fans and enhance the value of the franchise, whether watched on Blu-ray disc or broadcast TV.”
Sons of Anarchy is the highest-rated series ever on FX, and currently is the no. 1 scripted drama on basic cable, averaging on first run 5.8 million total viewers and 3.9 million adults 18-49, increases of 30 percent and 26 percent, respectively, vs. season three.
