Yahoo may be dealing with scarier things than Halloween, but even so the Yahoo Search Data team took the time to determine this year’s most popular costume searches. The charts, as always, are dominated by movie and television characters – of which “sexy Smurf” might just be the most truly frightening.
Not counting sexy versions of just about anything, adults are most interested in looking like a character from Star Wars, ABC’s Pan Am, The Wizard of Oz (pictured), or the title star of any superhero movie, especially Catwoman. Mixed in with those are vampire, Indian and the Eighties.
Looking like a celebrity known from the entertainment world is another popular search. The top eight are of these are: Lady Gaga, Nicki Minaj, Katy Perry, Justin Bieber, Snooki, Dog the Bounty Hunter, Taylor Swift and Charlie Sheen.
Babies and dogs – yes, dogs – are most likely to be dressed as one of the Angry Birds, the only videogame characters that made it onto the Yahoo Search popularity lists. Parents also are searching to subject their infants and toddlers to dressing like Cookie Monster, Ghostbusters’ Stay Puft Marshmallow Man, or a character from Disney-Pixar’s Up (Russell the Scout, Dug the dog or the elderly Carl, one wonders).
