Clear Channel Radio and Cumulus Media Inc. today announced an agreement that will make all 570 Cumulus radio stations in 120 markets available on the New iHeartRadio platform. Of equal if not more importance, it also calls for Clear Channel Radio to advertise SweetJack, Cumulus’s daily deals platform. Terms of the deal were not disclosed.
Cumulus will continue to stream its stations on its own station websites and mobile apps. New iHeartRadio will become its sole digital aggregator, however, and it will advertise iHeartRadio on-air and feature a link to iHeartRadio on all of its websites.
SweetJack’s national radio daily deals platform will suddenly expand its advertising reach, becoming available on nearly 1,400 radio stations and station websites across the country. Founded in April, SweetJack had one million members in 16 markets before today’s agreement.
“Radio connects local businesses to consumers like no other medium can, and we’re looking forward to helping our listeners find even more great deals right in their own backyards with SweetJack,” Bob Pittman, chief executive officer of Clear Channel, said in a statement.
Cumulus is the largest pure-play radio broadcaster in the U.S. “SweetJack is … a break-through brand in a sea of sameness that’s fueled by the power of radio to connect local merchants with consumers. This agreement with Clear Channel enables us to scale SweetJack into a true nationwide platform which we believe is essential to competing successfully in this rapidly growing space,” said Lew Dickey, chief executive officer of Cumulus Media. “Also, an important part of this announcement is our decision to stream Cumulus’ 570 radio stations on Clear Channel’s dynamic New iHeartRadio platform. It’s a best-in-class technology platform that will extend our reach to people across the country who will be able to listen to our great brands anytime, anywhere.”
