Washington, DC – President Obama confirmed on Friday that Aneesh Chopra, who since 2009 has served as the nation’s first federal CTO, will resign from the position soon.

Politico reported that Chopra’s last day will be Feb. 8.

Chopra, who previously served as Virginia’s Secretary of Technology, reportedly is mulling a possible career in politics.

“Aneesh found countless ways to engage the American people using technology, from electronic health records for veterans, to expanding access to broadband for rural communities, to modernizing government records,” said Obama in a statement. “His legacy of leadership and innovation will benefit Americans for years to come, and I thank him for his outstanding service.”
