Mobile social game developer Z2Live has acquired the Vancouver-based full-service game development studio Big Sandwich Games. Big Sandwich Games’ facility and team will become part of Z2Live as Z2Live Games Vancouver.

Terms of the deal were not disclosed, but Z2Live said the acquisition was a strategic way to rapidly grow its team and capabilities. In fact, the company said that gaining a foothold in Vancouver was one of the benefits of the transaction because it gave them access to the area’s rich pool of talent.

Big Sandwich Games’ leaders Glenn Barnes and Tyler Sigman will continue heading up the Z2Live Games Vancouver team.

Meanwhile, the Z2Live team in Seattle has moved to larger offices in the downtown area. “We were flat out of space, having grown from 16 to 80 employees in the last year,” said David Bluhm, CEO at Z2Live. “The Z2Live team, all of which share equity in the company, earned the new space with their dedication to create, operate and scale our games worldwide.”

Founded in 2009, Z2Live creates free-to-play social and multiplayer games for mobile devices like the category-leading hits Battle Nations (pictured), Trade Nations and MetalStorm, which collectively have more that 25 million players worldwide.
