Independently owned and operated online video network Blip has named Kelly Day as CEO and appointed her to the company’s board of directors.

Jeffrey Glass, managing director Bain Capital Ventures and Blip board member, said she initially would focus on growing the company and further leveraging its library of original content, a task helped by the $12 million in venture capital Blip closed in February.

Day joins Blip having most recently been executive vice president and general manager of Digital Media and Commerce of Discovery Communications. In that role she oversaw the company’s U.S. websites, digital operations and programming, e-commerce operations, licensing and home entertainment.

Before that, Day held several positions within Discovery, including chief operating officer for Discovery Commerce, where she was credited with achieving record-breaking growth and bottom-line value for Discovery.

Her previous experience includes vice president of E-Commerce at wedding media company The Knot and executive director of AOL Shopping.

“Her experience and expertise in building audiences and establishing deep distribution partnerships, aligns perfectly with Blip’s strategic vision of providing producers the opportunity to distribute and monetize their content as broadly as possible,” said Glass. “Kelly offers a balance of strategic thinking, operational instincts and an interpersonal style that makes her the perfect fit for the company.”
