IAC has named Kerry Trainor as chief executive officer of its video sharing subsidiary Vimeo, effective March 26. The announcement was made by IAC CEO Greg Blatt, who added that that Dae Mellencamp will remain with the company as president. The decision is part of Vimeo’s drive to improve monetization as it continues to grow.

Trainor joins Vimeo having been senior vice president and general manager, Entertainment for AOL’s Huffington Post Media Group, until earlier this month. In that position, which he assumed less than two years ago, he was responsible for AOL Music, AOL TV, Moviefone, Huffington Post Entertainment, Huffington Post Celebrity and Huffington Post Comedy.

Previously Trainor was co-founder and CEO of FlipGloss Media, which was acquired by Forbes Media in 2009. Before that he was head of Global Media Products for Yahoo Music, having started his career at pioneering music startup Launch.com which was acquired by Yahoo.

Blatt said Mellencamp had led Vimeo to its current success, boasting over 70 million unique users a month and many thousands of paying subscribers. “By uniting Kerry’s understanding of monetization and scale content businesses with Dae’s keen product and community sensibility, I’m confident Vimeo’s growth will accelerate,” he said. “We really have high ambitions for this business.”
