Leading digital comics platform comiXology today announced that Peter Levin, CEO of Nerdist Industries, has accepted a seat on its board of advisors.
Levin will draw upon his expertise and experience to advise comiXology on strategic initiatives and partnerships as well as business and corporate development. He joins existing comiXology advisory board members Milton Griepp, CEO of ICv2; Jenette Kahn, longtime president and editor-in-chief of DC Comics and MAD Magazine and Double Nickel Entertainment co-founder; and Jeff Ballowe, former head of ZDNet and technology startup investor and mentor.
Founded in 2007, comiXology is well-known for its Comics by comiXology digital comics platform, which is available for iOS, Android, Kindle Fire and browsers. It regularly ranks as a top-grossing iPad app, and it comes preloaded on Amazon’s Kindle Fire.
Levin was co-founder and CEO of GeekChicDaily, which merged with Chris Hardwick’s Nerdist in 2011 to form Nerdist Industries, with Hardwick serving as founder and chief creative officer. Levin also serves as an executive advisor to Japanese entertainment and media conglomerate Yoshimoto Kogyo, and recently advised Rovio Mobile, a business of Angry Birds parent company Rovio Entertainment.
Nerdist Industries consists of the popular Nerdist.com along with a branded YouTube channel, podcast, television franchise, live events and more. Nerdist Industries investors include Legendary Pictures, Mandalay Enterprises, Machinima CEO Allen DeBevoise, Yoshimoto Kogyo, Gamespy founder Mark Surfas and Revolution Studio’s Joe Roth. Nerdist Industries’ partners in its YouTube channel include The Jim Henson Company, Broadway Video Entertainment and The Chernin Company.
