McLean, Va. – The USA Today Sports Media Group, the McLean-based sports arm of USA Today and parent Gannett’s community newspaper and TV properties, said on Monday it has acquired Quickish, developer of a news curation and recommendation hub. Financial terms of the deal were not disclosed.

Quickish founder Dan Shanoff also has joined USA Today Sports as an audience development executive. Shanoff previously served as a vice president of content for Associated Content, which was acquired by Yahoo in 2010, before creating and producing the “Daily Quickie” column for ESPN.com.

“There are very, very few people in our industry who grasp the digital and mobile sports landscapes as well as Dan,” said Dave Morgan, senior vice president of content and editor-in-chief of the USA Today Sports Media Group. “Acquiring Quickish, and adding Dan to our team, are integral to our efforts to build USA Today Sports across all platforms.”

Launched in January 2011, Quickish publishes a stream of the most relevant sports news and analysis articles, all vetted by editors for quality, relevance and accuracy.
