San Bruno,
Calif. – Google (NASD: GOOG) YouTube is
preparing to allow users to charge rental fees to view their uploaded video
content, YouTube product management head Hunter Walk told MediaPost. A pilot
rentals project that debuted at the Sundance Film Festival was recently
expanded to add dozens of mainly independent and Bollywood titles for rent. "We
have hundreds of people making thousands of dollars, and dozens are making tens
of thousands, and hundreds of thousands," Walk said, referring to
YouTube’s Partner Program for advertising. "People are quitting their jobs
to build content for the site."
