Palo Alto,
Calif.
– Facebook plans to offer a
more simplified version of its privacy settings in the coming weeks, Wired.com
reported, citing a WAMU-FM radio interview with Tim Sparapani, the company’s
head of public policy. "Now we’ve heard from our users that we have gotten
a little bit complex," Sparapani told WAMU. "I think we are going to
work on that. We are going to be providing options for users who want
simplistic bands of privacy that they can choose from and I think we will see
that in the next couple of weeks."

Sparapini noted that the company has
built a privacy setting "for every new type of sharing [users] are allowed
to have," adding, "what this means is that in fact we have come up with
an extraordinary number of privacy settings."

The New York Times recently
published an infographic that displays how users must navigate through 50
settings with more than 170 options to fully manage their privacy options on
Facebook.

Rival MySpace also recently announced plans to offer similar
simplified privacy control options for its users.
