Sunnyvale, Calif. – Intertrust, a developer and patent
holder of digital rights management (DRM) technologies, announced on Monday
that it has acquired patents and software developed by SeeqPod via a Chapter 7
bankruptcy proceeding. Financial details of the transaction were not disclosed.
SeeqPod offered a search engine that let users stream songs from any website
hosting music files, developed at the Lawrence Berkeley National Laboratory.
Warner Music Group sued SeeqPod for copyright infringement in 2008, and the
company later shut down filed for Ch. 11 in 2009.
Sunnyvale, Calif.-based
Intertrust acquired the company’s assets in a Ch. 7 proceeding.
"Intertrust
plans to use SeeqPod’s breakthrough technology in distributed search systems in
a variety of applications and services for Internet television, targeted
advertising, recommendation systems, electronic music distribution and healthcare
information services," said Dave Maher, executive vice president and chief
technology officer for Intertrust.
