Paradise Valley, Ariz. – Google (NASD: GOOG) plans to gradually introduce
social networking features across its various services in the fall, Reuters
reported, citing comments made by CEO Eric Schmidt.
The company will add
"layers" of social networking to its sites, rather than trying to
launch a dedicated service like Wave or Buzz.
"We’re trying to take
Google’s core products and add a social component," Schmidt told
reporters, according to Reuters.
"If you think about it, it’s obvious.
With your permission, knowing more about who your friends are, we can provide
more tailored recommendations. Search quality can get better."
Recent
media reports have indicated that Google is developing a new social networking
platform called Google ME that would hope to rival Facebook.
