Beijing – Microsoft (NASD: MSFT) has partnered with Chinese e-commerce
giant Alibaba Group to test a new search service in China, the Associated Press
reports.
The Etao search site launched in beta last weekend, and combines
Alibaba’s e-commerce search engine with a Chinese-language version of
Microsoft’s Bing.
The search engine will compete with Baidu (NASD: BIDU), which claims 70%
of the Chinese market, and Google (NASD: GOOG), which counts 24.2%.
AP notes that Alibaba
also operates the Chinese version of Yahoo’s (NASD: YHOO) search engine, and that Yahoo
holds a 40% stake in Alibaba.
