Mountain View, Calif. — Google Inc. has broken its silence about the ongoing legal battle between Apple Corp. and HTC, remarking that Apple’s lawsuits are based on pure “jealousy.”
Former Google CEO and now executive chairman Eric Schmidt lashed out after the U.S. International Trade Commission ruled against the Taiwanese mobile product company HTC on two counts of copyright infringement of Apple’s phone patents.
“The big news in the past year has been the explosion of Google Android handsets, and this means our competitors are responding,” said Schmidt at Google’s Mobile Revolution Conference in Tokyo. “Because they are not responding with innovation, they’re responding with lawsuits.”
According to a report in Australia’s News Ltd. newspapers, Schmidt went on to reaffirm the corporation’s position that there has been no wrongdoing, and that they would support HTC’s fight against Apple, stating his confidence in HTC’s success during these trials.
Although the decision has yet to be upheld, if ITC’S final decision rules against HTC, Android developers and devices might see a significant impact of profitability.
