Los Gatos, Calif. — Netflix Inc announced Wednesday that they have reached a deal with CBS Corp. that will allow the online video rental service to stream shows to audiences in Latin America and Canada, Reuters reported.
The agreement will run for two years and allow Netflix to stream shows such as Twin Peaks, Californication and Dexter overseas. Although financial terms were not disclosed, the company said the deal is similar to its agreements to stream TV shows in the U.S.
“We are pleased to be partners with Netflix as they roll out their superb service to new markets,” said Armando Nunez, president, CBS Studios International. “This new arrangement — which does not compete with U.S. ratings or Showtime’s domestic subscriber base — underscores the popularity of CBS content around the world, and illustrates yet another meaningful way for us to realize incremental value from our vast library of content.”
Netflix already launched their service in Canada earlier this year and is in the process of expansion into 43 Latin American countries.
CBS’ deal with the company will limit the number of shows and will exclude some of its biggest network hits.
