Hulu announced another addition to its growing catalog of original content. Paul, the Male Matchmaker, a new web series from Warner Bros. Television Group’s Studio 2.0, will debut Feb. 13 exclusively on Hulu.
That date, a Valentine’s Day near miss, is no accident. The 10-episode comedy is a mockumentary about a socially inept man who inherits a matchmaking service, and who proceeds to dole out brutally honest dating advice in the sincere belief that he is helping women find love.
Actor/writer Paul Bartholomew (Mad Men; Yes, Dear), who stars in the series, said, “This show is for anyone who has ever been set up on a horribly misguided date by their sister, friend, co-worker — and then been blamed for it not working out. Which is basically everyone.”
Paul, the Male Matchmaker was created by Bartholomew (pictured) and Liz Tuccillo (He’s Just Not That Into You, How to Be Single), who also directs, and is produced by Generate in conjunction with Studio 2.0. “Hopefully, everyone will understand our intention,” Tuccillo said. “By making Paul so mean, and such a buffoon, we’re trying to underline how much single women still have to put up with, even in 2012.”
Viewers will also see a roster of guest stars that includes the likes of Janeane Garofalo, Lisa Edelstein, Tony Hale, Sam Trammell, David Eigenberg, Jonathan Silverman, Nadia Dajani and Darcy Sheen. The series also includes guest appearances from relationship experts including The Millionaire Matchmaker’s Patti Stanger and author John Gray.
