Girl Talk Fans Gamify Music

One of the most controversial artists working in music today, Girl Talk, is inspiring fans to build digital expressions of what they hear. Pittsburgh native Gregg Gillis bases his work as Girl Talk on mashing together hundreds of samples lifted from other artists’ recordings into something new from what they were before. Some of his fans then go a step beyond listening, and they enjoy the gamification of dissecting Girl Talk’s albums into their component parts. Mashup Breakdown, a new project by Benjamin Rahn, was born from wanting to turn this impulse into a kinetic experience.

Tapjoy Taps Sony's Peter Dille

Independent mobile advertising network Tapjoy Inc. announced that Peter Dille has joined the company as chief marketing officer. It’s the latest expansion move from a company that also just hired Al Wood as chief financial officer and Larry Berkin as vice president and general manager, Asia-Pacific. Dille left his position as SCEA's senior VP of marketing and PlayStation Network in March.

Google Ventures Finds a Friend in Echoecho

Google Ventures, the investment arm of Mountain View-based Google, said it has invested in Los Angeles-based Echoecho, developer of a location-based mobile app for finding friends. The investment was part of a $750,000 seed round that also included participation from U.K.-based venture firm PROfounders Capital.

Sprint Nextel Sues to Block AT&T/T-Mobile Merger

Days after the Department of Justice filed suit to block AT&T's proposed $39 billion acquisition of T-Mobile, rival wireless carrier Sprint Nextel on Tuesday launched a court battle of its own. Sprint Nextel, which has offices in Reston, filed suit in D.C. federal court, claiming a violation of Section 7 of the Clayton Act, which prohibits anticompetitive practices.

Kia, Now with HD Radio

Kia Motors America now offers cars equipped with digital HD Radio, the AM/FM/data broadcasting technology from iBiquity Digital Corp. It is now reaching showrooms in 2012 model year Optima, Sorento and Sportage vehicles, and it will become available in the Kia Soul later this year with others to follow.

DJ Tiësto and Penté Group Partner for Mobile, Online

Penté Group announced an exclusive artist website and mobile partnership with global star producer, musician and DJ Tiësto to create and develop mobile and social applications. The agreement also includes having Penté Group create and maintain the musician’s official online presence, Tiesto.com and the paid membership fan club site InTheBooth.com.
