Japanese Publishers Say Apple App Store Selling Pirated Books

0

Tokyo – A group of Japanese publisher groups has condemned
the state of copyright enforcement at Apple’s (NASD: AAPL) App Store in Japan, noting that
works from noted Japanese authors such as Haruki Murakami and Keigo Higashino
have been on sale illegally from the store, The Wall Street Journal reported.

Parties
to the press release issued Tuesday included the Japan Book Publishers
Association, Japan Magazine Publishers Association, Electronic Book Publishers
Association of Japan, and Digital Comic Association.

The group is seeking
discussions with Apple on how to resolve their complaints, noting they are
unconvinced Apple is unable to pre-screen mobile applications for copyrighted
content, and that "a failure to respond will be regarded as a lack of will
on [Apple’s] part to take measures in a sincere manner."
